Description: A study of human behavior and the structure of society. Emphasis will focus on cultures outside the Western European area, using a few selected societies as the framework in which to study the theories and principles of social and cultural anthropology. The goal of this course is to provide an overview of principles and processes of cultural anthropology and to plant a seed of cultural awareness in the students that will continue to grow and challenge ethnocentrism long after this course is over. By studying other cultures, students learn to understand and accept beliefs and behavior of peoples who are different.
