Java is a programming language that can be used to write applets that animate web pages, or to create interactive web sites that are 'alive.' Java is the program language behind most chat rooms.

Here are the steps to download and install the latest version of Sun's Java Runtime Environment (JRE).

1.) Download the installer file from www.java.com. You may choose to run the file, or save it to your hard drive (recommended).

2.) After the download of the file is complete, navigate to the location in which you had saved the file. Double-click on the file to start the installation process.

3.) Before installation can continue the user will need to select the type of setup and accept the Licence agreement. We recommend keeping the default 'Typical Setup' option selected. Click the Accept button to continue.

4.) Once the Accept button is selected the installation will proceed. The window will now display something similar to what you see below. This process may take more than a few minutes depending on the speed of your computer.

5.) After the installation process is complete the window will display a button labeled Finish. To complete the installation and to close the window click the Finish button.

If your web browser was open at the time of the installation you may need to restart your web browser for Java to properly integrate itself into your browser.
