A cookie is a small bit of information used by some web sites. When you visit the site that uses cookies, the site might ask your browser to place one or more cookies on your hard disk. The online course systems that the CTDLC uses require cookies be stored on the student's computer for login security.

Once you login to a course, a cookie will be stored on your computer. That cookie tells the course system that you are authorized to view the online course materials.

If you are encountering problems in your course, it may be that the setting within your browser for Cookies may be disabled. Here are the steps to take to enable Cookies in Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Communicator.

Microsoft Internet Explorer

From the Tools menu, select Internet Options. The following screen will appear.

Internet Explorer's Internet Options

Click on the Security tab, then click the Custom Level button. The Security Settings window will open.

Internet Explorer's Security Settings

Scroll down the window until you see the heading for Cookies. Make sure that both sections have Enabled selected.

Netscape Communicator

From the Edit menu, select Preferences. This will open the Preference window.

Netscape's Preferences

Double-click on the Advanced heading to expand the menu, then click on Cookies. The Cookies window will appear on the right side of the screen.

Netscape's Cookies

Make sure that the Enable all cookies section is selected.
