New Britain, Conn. - October 3, 2001 -The Connecticut Distance Learning Consortium (CTDLC) and SBC SNET today announced the winners of the Connecticut Teacher Technology Awards.  The three winning teachers are being recognized for their outstanding efforts to enhance students' learning experiences through the incorporation of information technology in their classrooms.  Each teacher will receive an award of $3,000.

This year's winners are Steven Baranski of Bedford Middle School in Westport for the K-8 category, Michael Grella of Terryville High School for the high school level, and Thomas Terry of the University of Connecticut for higher education. A committee of K-16 professionals selected this year's winners from a pool of more than 75 nominees from throughout the state.  The winners produced projects that were learner-centered and that pushed the edge of the instructional technology envelope.

"These awards are another way to inspire educators and students alike to explore new avenues in online learning," said Ed Klonoski, CTDLC's Executive Director.  "SBC SNET's sponsorship of the awards celebrates learning in technology for the community as a whole.  SBC SNET is committed to enhancing communications in Connecticut, and is dedicated to supporting the communities it serves.  From education to charitable works to neighborhood economic development, SNET is making a difference."

The winners will be presented with their awards at the CTDLC's Fourth Annual Teaching and Learning Conference on October 13, 2001.  The conference, featuring the theme "Connecticut Connects," will be held at the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center in Cromwell, CT.  K-16 education professionals will join to share presentations and participate in hands-on workshops that demonstrate exciting technological, pedagogical, and student support innovations in online learning.

Founded in 1997, the CTDLC is a publicly funded organization whose mission is to promote quality distance learning.  With a focus on training educators to apply information technology to their teaching, the CTDLC has decided to take this opportunity to recognize technology innovators in their field.  For more information about how the CTDLC can help you visit www.ctdlc.org.
