The Connecticut
Distance Learning Consortium (CTDLC) was selected by the Connecticut
State Department of Education's Bureau of Career and Adult Education
(BCAE) to provide leadership and facilitation in the development of
a Web-based Adult Credit Diploma program that will be available statewide.
Work will begin immediately on this program, funded for $250,000 each
year for two years through a federal grant.
The CTDLC will be working with four Local Education Associations in
the state that already provide Adult Credit Diplomas to develop four
online Adult High School Credit Diploma courses. These courses are slated
to be available to adult education students by September, 2003. The
CTDLC's work on this project will also include providing an online orientation
for students, a training program for teachers, advisors and student
service providers, and a plan for providing web-based student and academic
support services. "One of our primary requirements in selecting
a vendor was to ensure that the project would be a collaborative effort
among the vendor, the bureau and adult education programs "said
Roberta Pawloski of the BCAE. "The CTDLC proposal clearly recognized
that the success of the project depended upon the involvement of adult
educators."
"We are very excited about this project" said Ed Klonoski,
Director of the CTDLC. "Combining the expertise of Connecticut's
adult education leaders to create an online credit diploma program is
a 'win' for everyone involved.
